November Update

November Update

December 11, 2018 by

Our November pig season has been action packed and very successful.  This time of year is difficult for pig hunting because the acorns and grass are abundant and with cooler temperatures the pig don’t need to travel as much for water.  However, we have had success finding good groups of pigs out later in the day due to the cooler temperatures.  We harvested 14 pigs in the month of November with 100% shot opportunity and some close encounters! With new areas of the property getting planted in barley we are looking forward to the coming summer months when pigs will start feeding in the open fields and providing more opportunities for harvest.

Our quail hunting season continues to be productive will lots of opportunities at killing birds.  We’ve been steadily finding 10-12 coveys a day with shot distances probably averaging 25 yards.  Even with these hard flying and weary birds we have been able to get some beginner hunters their first birds! As the season goes on our bird dogs are improving, locating coveys earlier and still retrieving very well.

We've also had some great fall turkey hunting with flocks of birds reaching 200! Most fall hunts are conducted for ambush hunting and hardly any calling, in relation to spring hunting.  However, the hens are extremely vocal this time of year and are just as aggressive as males during the spring.  We have had incredible luck calling with decoys this fall and it seems those big boss hens don't like outsiders because they get fired up and come running.  If your waiting until spring turkey season to get that great action then wait no longer, we can provide the same thrilling excitement that spring turkey season brings but in fall!

If you are looking to expand your hunting adventures across the border look no further! We are in the process of leasing 30,000 acres in Mexico, just over the Arizona/Mexico border.  This beautiful and wild landscape is home to some amazing animals and once in a lifetime hunting experiences! With COUES DEER, DESERT SHEEP, GOULDS TURKEY, and ELEGANT QUAIL this property is a wildlife mecca for those hunters looking for a new and exciting adventure! The accommodations are luxurious and culturally attractive with beautiful Spanish style homes surrounded by breathtaking views of the central America desert environment.  Bring your family and friends on an adventure and experience they will never forget!

A couple of our hunts we offer are time sensitive and sell out fairly quickly. For our Tule elk hunts we are fully booked through the 2019 season and are now starting to book hunts for the 2020 season.  These hunts typically need 1-2 years in advance due to the number of tags distributed by the state of California each year and the high interest in Tule elk.  Our blacktail deer hunts can be booked the same year of the hunt for the most part, however we do offer trophy hunts that are limited and usually fill up quick.  For the trophy hunts it would be safe to book close to 1 year in advance.  For the rest of our hunts you can book 2 weeks in advance in order for us to properly scout and prep for your accommodations and hunting adventure.  We do have a large customer base and dates may be booked so it is beneficial to book as far in advance as possible in order to reserve the dates that work best for you.
